Hi all,
Had a gig last night at a medium sized venue. Our group is known as the Blues Phoenix Project and we are a trio playing Blues and Rock. Took my complete set-up to it. I wasn't sure if the DNS-210 would be enough on its own so I put it on top of my DNS-410 figuring I could quickly unplug the 210 and plug in my 410 if needed. Hooked up my 800-watt Eden amp to my DNS-210 in bridged mode. So basically, I was using my DNS-410 to hold up my DNS-210. That's the most expensive amp stand I've ever used. .
And here's the stage that is set up across a corner. Plenty of depth in the corner but not a lot of room across the front. This shot is before we started. I ended up moving the amp farther to the right (looking at the stage) and brought it up closer to the front so I was more beside it instead of in front of it.:
Here's a shot taken when we were performing.
Here's my rig from last night. I actually only had the DNS-210 hooked up to the amp:
I originally set up my mic just a few feet in front of it because the stage was in a corner and my spot was pretty shallow. During the sound check I walked out behind the tables past the dance floor. My bass was too quiet and a little thin. I normally run some boost at ~250Hz which gives me good definition in the mix. I could pick myself out just fine but sounded low and a bit thin. So I went back, moved the master volume up slightly and put on 2 clicks of Bass EQ (I usually run that Bass EQ flat). Then everything sounded great - nice and full and not too loud, but loud enough.
I walked into the bar area also which was separated by a counter and a beam across the ceiling. The sound level dropped significantly of course, but still sounded good. At 9 PM we came back on stage and after the first song I pushed my amp back as far as I could and off to my left as I faced the audience. The DNS210 was just killing my ears because it was right at ear level and only 3-feet away. Next song I moved it over as far to my left as I could and was still being killed by it. Then I moved it up a bit so it was almost even with where I was standing. That helped a lot. Finally I moved my mic over towards the center by about a foot and that's how I played for the rest of the night.
As you might guess I had zero trouble hearing it last night, but even though the guitar was mic'd and I had a monitor, I had a hard time hearing him. But the levels were great out front and that was the main thing. I was able to hear the guitar well enough to know where he was in the progressions and leads and that was all I really needed. We ended at 1 AM and still had a fair amount of folks in the club. Club owner gave us a $100 bonus for the night because he did so well. Was a really good feeling, but man was I tired when it was over.
I often wondered why so many of the DNA endorsers used the DNS-210. Now I know. It has the same great sound characteristics as my DNS410 but in a smaller package. I will NOT be using my DNS-410 as an amp stand for my DNS-210 in any future gigs. This DNS-210 is easily as loud or louder than any 410 outside of the DNS-410 which really plays like an 810 or better. So, the DNS210 will be my go-to cab for anything except large venues, outdoor venues, and outdoor Festivals where I'll pull out my DNS-410.
Bottom line is that besides the great sound, the DNS-210 is LOUD!!

Re: DNS-210 is LOUD!
What? What? Can you speak louder???? There was a lot of booming thunder coming up from the south last night and my hearing is a bit affected.
Glad the gear worked as advertized. Sometimes, regardless of the hype, you have to actually experience it to believe it!

Re: DNS-210 is LOUD!
Yeah, it was pretty amazing. I'd only used it up to that point in our rehearsal studio powering it with an Eden TN226 which puts out 225 into 4 ohms and about half that into 8 ohms. Since this is an 8 ohm cab I'm guessing somewhere around 120-watts, and that worked just fine for rehearsal but hadn't used it with my WT500/800 yet and just wasn't sure if it would do the trick by itself. Well, I found out! It's definitely a loud cabinet when I put a few more watts into it. I don't think I'll ever raise it up that high again. I prefer not to have it on the floor, but having next to your ears can be painful. It's a freaking GREAT cab!

Yeah Armin it did sound great once I got out of the direct line of fire. Sounded great out in the audience, but you don't want to be standing 3-ft. in front of it with the speakers at ear level when you're playing a gig. It really produces the same sound as my DNS410 though and I really like that!

Re: DNS-210 is LOUD!
Maybe we should ask for a dummy cab just to put underneath.
For ear level and looks

Re: DNS-210 is LOUD!
LOL...you think David would put out empty cabs for use as amp/cab stands? How about those false fronts like you see from Marshall?

I don't think so, Dan.
Also, I guess I buy the box with the woofers anyway

Re: DNS-210 is LOUD!
That was the first DNS cab I checked out. I was amazed how much sound came out of a 2x10.
I wanted to check out the 4x10 but the DNA stuff is a little hard to find in Chicago, and that was all they had. I was hooked though and have one, plus 2-4x10s. I use the 2x10 at home, one 4x10 at practice and 1-4x10 for gigs. I haven't tried combining cabs yet, Haven't seen the need though it might be fun.
I'm running a 1350 into those cabs and, we're a bit loud, (death metal) and one cab is plenty.
I should get an 800 for at home. Hmmmmm……..
