DNA rig next to drummer= deaf drummer!

Postby rinos88 » Fri Oct 28, 2016 7:13 am

Kinda funny story that I thought I'd share. We did a rather large benefit show this past weekend that had probably over 1000 people show up. The stage was relatively small for the size of the room, so my rig ended up right next to my drummer.

Before we go on, the sound guy realizes that part of the board isn't working, so we are limited on channels. He asks if I think my amp would be strong enough to fill the room without going through the board.

I calmly look at him and replied 'Oh, yeah. That shouldn't be a problem.' I did this while strongly suppressing a mischievous smile.

After playing for an hour and having my rig cranked to about half, we begin to load out. My drummer seems to be talking way louder than usual. Finally he says, 'Dude, that rig can NEVER be right next to me again! I couldn't hear the audience, guitars or even my own drums as I pounded the crap out of them.'

We had practice again the other day. As soon as I got there, he said 'Dude, seriously, what the f#(× is that rig made of? Phil from my cover band has an Ampeg 8x10 that is super loud, but that thing is half the size and just insane.'

My drummer also has the voice like the Kool Aid man from the commercials in the 80's. That makes it even funnier.

I've come to a realization that going to play a smaller gig with a 1350 and 410 cab is kind of like going hunting for squirrel........with an elephant rifle!

Yes, it is most definitely a weapon of bass destruction.
