Update on my Rig

Postby Bassballz » Sun Jan 17, 2016 10:42 pm

Running a 1350 into (2) DNS210's

I have manufacture number 5 of the first run of 1350's, and I tell you, I will never, ever, need another bass setup again. The only reason I'll ever buy new equipment is to simply add to my DNA collection because I feel like I can never get enough of this amazing tone.

I've used my amp and cabs for small and large gigs as well as recording sessions, there is no weakness or short coming with this gear. I can't stress enough how much I love my DNA!

I don't think anybody is making anything comparable! I just have the DNS-410 cab and I don't really need anything else. Down the road, I might get one (or two) of the DNS-112's just for ease of transport and modular flexibility, but the 410 will cover anything I can think of playing. Small, medium, large, indoors or outdoor gigs, I've got it covered.

I had a couple of killer bass player friends come over a couple of days ago to hang and they were both blown away by the DNA rig. The only thing I need to get is another 210 cab and my rig shopping days are done! They couldn't believe how low the 210 could go! Made them 2nd guess their current rigs. Lol

Yup! Nothing quite like hearing what it can do in person.

I registered yesterday and came across your post. I just took delivery of a used 1350 and it's #6! I'm rehearsing with it tonight and looking forward to my maiden voyage. I'll be playing a NS Design CR-4 upright through (I think) an Ampeg 2x10 and 1x15 stack.

Hi Mwirwin and welcome to the Gene Pool!

You will not experience the full DNA blast, since you are using your old cabs, but the power and tone control of the 1350 will give you a lot of pleasure :D
Enjoy and report back! We also like to see pictures!
Rock on!

Thanks for the welcome! The Ampeg rig actually isn't mine - it's the house rig at the orchestra rehearsal space. It's a late model Ampeg Portaflex - 800 watt amp, Ampeg cabs (2x10, 1x15). I'm the only bass player competing with three tubas and half dozen euphoniums.

The Ampegs are very loud but I've never liked the tone. They just don't have any character and air to them. I think it's because of the shallow depth of the cabs.

The 1350 did make them sound better. I got lots of lows out of 15 and really nice definition in the higher frequency's. The CR4 actually had some woody resonant frequencies which are pretty hard to come by!

I just tried my CR4 with my 1350 and Epifani UL310 - see pics. It has so much sub frequency, I had to turn the bass frequencies down on the CR4. I never do that - usually it's cranked at about 4 o'clock. Now I have it closer to a flat response, around 1 o'clock. I had the Shape Control at about 2 o'clock and the pad on. When I took the pad off, the frequency response was even richer - and I already had backed off on the volume. I really didn't know what I was missing - the CR4 even sounds closer to an acoustic bass because more of the resonant frequencies from the fingerboard are coming through.

I had been using a Hartke LH1000 - so I expected a big difference but nothing like this. I haven't tried my other electric basses out yet - will let you know.

I was considering adding 1x15 to my rig, but it sounds so amazing I don't think I need to lug any extra weight to a gig. The 310 is rated at 750 watts and I'm usually DI'd to a PA if needed. I think I'm set for a good long time.

Hey people!

Just dropping a line to say my 1350 and two DNS-210's are still amazing.

The amp and cabs have been getting a lot more studio time than on stage. I've been goofing around with mixing DI with mic'd cab. Simply amazing tones. Other than that, just reporting I'm still a satisfied customer. Cheers!
