The 90x90 size is really small!

I think 90x90 is pretty standard for most boards with avatar options. Maybe 100x100 tops.

Most forums I visit are higher. 140x140 tops, and there are those who allow you to upload gifs, and large banners.
I'm glad they don't allow that here, because often there are guys out there uploading a whole movie in their avatar!
Meaning all the extra bandwidth to a movie I'm not particularly interested in watching.

Avatar sizes here are fine with me. I also don't like the sig lines and avatars that take up bandwidth that I want to use to view topics, not somebodies ego.
