DNA 1350 demo video

Postby jmcgliss » Mon Feb 10, 2014 11:06 pm

Check this out. Following David's 1350 reveal event in January, Bass Club of Chicago produced this video featuring the new head. What comes through in this video is the transparency and excellent tone with control set flat. What may not be noticed is how silent the amp is at idle - perfect for the studio. And, during the live event, the roomful of bassists showed no mercy on the DNA cabinets - leaving them very impressed by the power, dynamics, and control at high volume.

Everyone who has played the 1350 agrees David has succeeded with this all-new design.

Wow! First time I've heard David's new amp and it sounds marvellous. :)

Many of the functions are familiar. Guess the Bass Club guy was't aware of the Nav type Eden gear with both the Threshold and Ratio settings for the compressor.

First thought the shape knob might be something like the enhance we are familiar with, but seems to be a more complex shaping than simply the low mid scoop and low/mid high/high boost of the original control.

Available end of March he says! Hmmmmm . . . ;)
Feel that bottom, eh?

So glad to see this is finally coming to market. Looks like the hard-knee/soft-knee selector in the compressor didn't make it in the final product. Would have like to have seen the fellow demoing it do something with the controls other than just twist the shape knob. Although he gave a nice explanation of why a compressor needed to be set differently for different conditions, he didn't explain at all what was going on with the compressor when he was using it.

I did not at all like the sound when he had the shape knob cranked. Very definite differences in the sound at the various settings, but one of the tracks just came alive when shape was set at 12 o'clock. Didn't sound scooped to me at all at that point. In fact it sounded a bit like the mids were boosted there. Was a very clear, articulate, and musical sound. With that much power, probably never going to run into headroom problems with this amp.

Very, very, very nice!

All I can say is that being in the room when some of Chicago's heaviest dudes pushed this head at high volume through David's 410 or dual 112's was *very* impressive. The power translates into a deep, satisfying, musical and rhythmic tone marriage ("orgy" was not a design parameter) you can feel. Without headache-inducing old school loudness. Boutique basses or Fenders...all sound muscular and transparent at the same time.

What missed was an explanation that there are two footswitch inputs, one of which is a tone bypass for setting two tone profiles.

At Bass Club's event, the dual DNS112 rig blew everyone away, as did the tight 115+110 rig. As killer as the 1400-watt 410 is, us older guys are appreciating how loud and tough a pair of 112's can be. One of Chicago's hardest-working, punchiest bassists uses a DNS112 Micro on many urban gigs and loves it. I once used a single DNS115 + WT800 at a festival gig (6-piece Motown group) and the cabinet was tight-tight-tight.

Will look forward to additional videos of the DNA 1350 in live settings.

It uses 2 standard fender style foot switches with a stereo 1/4" plug (TRS).
Foot switch A: Shape bypass and Tone bypass.
Foot switch B: compressor bypass and effects on/off.

I can't wait to see these hit the market. The bass world will be turned on it's ear.

I'm so glad that David made the rear input.
