They're Playing My Song! - Cover of Time of My Dyin', Part 2

Postby LaneOnBass » Wed Mar 31, 2010 10:49 am

Wow! I'm sorry, but this is just a dream come true for me. I think it's the same for many songwriters... when you're a kid writing your first song, you dream of the day when someone else covers it.

Well, that dream has come true for me after all these years.

Here's Austrian band Rock Office covering one of my songs:

I'm told they are covering two others, and I should be getting video soon.

Hope you like it! :happy-partydance:

Hehe Lane, a dream comes true.
Funny thing is and you probably don't know because he speaks austrian, he couldn't remember the name of the songs when he was doing his speach. Go ask him. :D

More to come Lane ;)

Actually, I did catch that. He said "Die for You" which is the title of one of the others they are doing. I learned German as a young teenager, but haven't used it in years. I caught some of the intro, but not all of it, by any means.

I'm not certain, but I think this was the first time they had performed the songs live. I can understand how he might get confused. I'm always singing about dying and stuff. (smile) Vocalist did a darn good job with the lyrics, though... much better than I could do with German, much less Austrian.

By the way... shouldn't I be hearing/watching a certain German band playing a song or two in the near future? I know I already told you how that made me feel, right?

GEEZ! I really need to figure out a way to get over there for some dates... We almost had it set, then I lost Gary. I've GOT to get back to work on that. We need to have a bier together, mein freund.

Right Lane,
we haven't video taped it yet.
My guitard loves the CD and was amazed by the full sound of a trio.
Ok, some of the guitar parts are doubled but still a fantastic sound.
We work on it.
Und kaltes Bier habe ich immer für dich :D

Thanks, Armin. I'm thrilled to know the band likes the CD. And, yes, some songs have more than one guitar part - a rhythm track plus lead... and we also added some incidental parts to some of the songs.

Here's my trick for live trio sound -- de-emphasize the main rhythm guitar part. Even if you play it, play it softly, so it sits well back in the mix. This way, when the guitarist switches to lead guitar, you don't have a big gaping hole in the sound.

One of the coolest things (to me, anyway) about Stormfront is that has NO rhythm guitar part... it's all bass chords. That way, the guitarist never has to think about switching from rhythm to lead... he just plays lead the whole time, or stands there looking cool during the vocals. 8-)

Can't wait to hear your versions! I'm sure they'll be great!!!

Hehe,
we figured that too and that's why I was asking for Stormfront in my last email ;-)

I hear you, bro.

Another thing... when we play these songs live, sometimes Gary won't play the main rhythm part at all. Instead, he'll do the little riffs to keep those intact. It seems that often those little riffs are more important to the live feel of the tune than the straight rhythm (chords) part.
