Depends on the bass I'm using. One size/type does not fit or work on all.
DR Black Beauties on my Tobias, old Fender flats on my P bass, T-I jazz flats on my MTD fretless and NS traditional strings on my NXT upright.

Haven't had to change the strings yet on my EUB.

I used to love the Blue Steel or D'Adario Prism, but have found myself buying the Ernie Ball Slinkys the past year or three.

Let's see. In 1966 I was using Fender flats on my '65 Jazz (there were no round-wound bass strings yet). Then in about 1971 I put Fender black tape-wound strings on it and that lived on my '65 until it was stolen in '76. In '85, when I bought my current Jazz, I put some Dean Markley Blue Steel strings on it. I replaced them twice and then in about 2014 I put a set of DR Black Beauties on it. I like the better balance of sound across the strings on the DR Black Beauty strings but miss that little extra bit of zing I got in my Blue Steel set.

I'm seeing a fair amount of wear on my Black Beauty's now as the tops of the round wound strings are losing their black coating. I am considering putting some LaBella Black Nylon tape-wounds on it. If I don't like those, I'll probably go back to the Blue Steel.

I have a set of GHS Bass Boomers on my 5-string. I rarely use it with the group I'm playing in now, but it definitely sounds better than the strings it came with.

I would highly recommend Elrick Nickel strings. Best I've ever played. Sadowsky nickels are a close second.

I just got my first set of 5 string boomers in the mail. Developing my own 5 string set, looks like its a winner, 45, 65, 85, 110, 135. I went heavier on the lower two as I'm tuned to A standard and occasionally drop C. Gonna let them settle in and hopefully I can order a couple sets from my AR before I head into the studio.
