Santa is busy...

Postby bassmayhem » Sun Aug 12, 2012 4:42 pm

Since I swapped a few items and sold some other, I no longer possess a fretless bass, but lo and behold!
Santa has plans for me. This beauty may be on its way:

A nice Skyline 55-02 fretless... I kinda like these basses.
Santa seems to like me too...

The fretless Lakland Skyline 55-02 is now on a flight from the new world to the old, more exactly to me. I kinda fell in love with the 55 series Lakie basses, now the third is soon here.

My first was a beautiful US 55-94 DeLuxe, the second a Skyline 55-02 standard that I've strung with flats. They are different, but not $2+k different. The third is amore or less a fretless carbon copy of number two, but with a lined ebony fingerboard.

Since my main bass isn't fretless, I'll settle down with the Skyline. Heck, the skyline is good enough for all bass players...

Pic's will come when the Dynamic Trio is gathered, the Musketeers...
One for all...

The Three Musketeers are gathered: Flatwound, Fretless and Roundwound!

The fretless one has a neck profile that is a little flatter on the backside. Otherwise they are more or less identical except for one US and two Skylines. I've tweaked the eq:s the same on all three: mid center frequency at 250 Hz. A slight boost on that and a slight roll-off on the bass pot, then go on all systems!

That's a classic trio, for sure. I like the 250Hz mid-center as well and use it as a "cut" about half the time, with some bass boost if the room is neutral.
